Fr. Edward Theodore Olszewski

Diocese: Archdiocese of Detroit MI
Ordained: 1960
Status of Accusation: Convicted

Accused of engaging in unlawful acts with his foster son from the age of 11, the individual in question faced a jury trial on 12/18/02. Ultimately, the jury found him guilty of indecent liberties with a minor, while declaring him innocent of the sodomy charges. Consequently, he received a probationary sentence on 1/30/03, lasting for a period of 3 years. Despite a denial of a new trial on 3/13/03, a civil lawsuit was filed on 12/22/03 in FL, alleging further abuse in that jurisdiction. However, the conviction was overturned on 12/8/05 by the MI Supreme Court, as it was determined that the defendant had been denied a fair and unbiased jury. Due to the majority of the sentence having been served, the prosecutor chose not to pursue a retrial. As a result, the individual’s name was removed from both the MI and FL sex-offender registries. Nevertheless, restrictions on his ministry remain in place, and he was included on the Detroit archdiocese’s list of credibly accused individuals on 6/10/19.
