Empowering Survivors: The Legal Pursuit in Father Raymond John Pilarski’s Case

In times of darkness, it’s essential to shed light on the truth and offer unwavering support to those who have endured unimaginable pain. This blog is dedicated to victims seeking legal justice and focuses on the distressing case involving Father Raymond John Pilarski. Our hearts are with you as we navigate through the details of his story, aiming to empower and provide the necessary information to aid in your journey toward justice and healing.

Father Raymond John Pilarski was born in Rogers City, Michigan, on January 18, 1928. He was ordained as a priest on June 4, 1955, by the Diocese of Saginaw, where he began his ministry in various parishes across Michigan. His early years in the ministry included service as an associate pastor at St. Catherine Parish in Ossineke and St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Bay City.

Later, he assumed the role of a full pastor, serving congregations at St. Michael Parish in Wilmot, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in East Tawas, St. Mary in Alpena, St. Augustine in Hillman, and Jesus the Good Shepherd in Atlanta. Over his years of service, he also undertook various assignments in Cheboygan County and Hillman, Michigan. The Diocese of Gaylord incardinated him in 1971, and he retired from active ministry in 1998.

In 2007, the Vatican permanently removed Father Pilarski from ministry following allegations of sexual assault by two women. The incidents were said to have occurred in the 1970s during his assignment at St. Mary in Alpena when the victims were only 13 and 22 years old. Sadly, the statute of limitations had already expired, preventing criminal charges from being filed.

Father Pilarski passed away in Petoskey, Michigan, on October 17, 2017, at the age of 89. In the subsequent years, the Gaylord Diocese and the Saginaw Diocese both identified him on their respective lists of “credibly accused” sexual offenders, publicly acknowledging the pain and suffering caused by his actions.
