Fr. Basil Goerner

Also referred to as Steve, this individual was ordained at the age of 61 in 1993, following a period of marriage and raising a family. Notably, he was included in the MI A.G.’s 10/22 report, which highlighted allegations of sexual abuse against him. In 1994, the diocese received a report from a woman who claimed that Goerner had sexually abused her in the early 1970s when she was just 18 years old. Additionally, she stated that he had also abused a 14-year-old girl during that same period. As a result, Goerner was sent to Servants of the Paraclete in NM for evaluation. Eventually, in August 2002, he was removed from all public ministry due to the US Bishops’ Charter. Goerner passed away in 2008.
