Fr. Bryan W. Medlin

Diocese: Diocese of Gaylord MI
Ordained: 2013
Status of Accusation: Accused

During the month of December in 2021, the diocese publicly acknowledged that Medlin, who at the time held the positions of pastor at the National Shrine of the Cross in the Woods in Indian River and assistant director of vocations for the diocese, was under investigation by the MI Attorney General. This investigation was prompted by allegations of Medlin sending inappropriate texts to high school students. As a result, Medlin was immediately placed on leave pending both civil and diocesan investigations. Moving forward to March of 2022, the Attorney General’s office made an announcement stating that they had indeed found evidence of Medlin sending inappropriate messages to teenagers and young men. However, they decided not to pursue criminal charges due to the behavior not meeting the necessary threshold of criminality beyond a reasonable doubt. Consequently, the diocese was then tasked with launching its own investigation into the matter.
