Fr. Dennis Kucharczyk

Diocese: Diocese of Saginaw MI
Ordained: 1985
Status of Accusation: Accused

In May 2019, Kucharczyk was suspended for “misconduct” involving a minor that occurred “years ago.” The police had notified the diocese in March 2018 about allegations against him. The accuser claimed to have reached out to a nun from the Office of Child and Youth Protection around 2010, but received no response. According to the woman, Kucharczyk began his inappropriate behavior when she was in first or second grade at a Midland parish in the 1980s. He would hug and kiss her on the cheek, hold her hand, give her small gifts, and even had her sit on his lap in a darkened classroom, where he placed his arms around her waist and hands on her inner thighs. This behavior persisted for years, accompanied by “gushy and lovey” letters, emails, and texts. The accuser also mentioned that Kucharczyk kissed her on the lips during her wedding, where he officiated. Kucharczyk denied all the allegations. The diocese acknowledged boundary violations but, following a canonical process, concluded that there was insufficient evidence to proceed further. His name was initially added to the diocesan list of accused individuals in 2019 but was later removed in March 2021.
