Publicly identified by Saginaw bishop Cistone in April 2018, Leipert was named as a former priest who had been permanently removed from ministry due to credible allegations of sexually abusing minors. His faculties were withdrawn in June 2001, and he was laicized in 2006. According to a news source in May 2018, Leipert was investigated after being accused in November 2000 of sexually abusing a 21-year-old male. He was also included on the Diocese of Superior’s list of credibly accused individuals on November 22, where he had served as a transitional deacon in 1972.
