Fr. Michael McKenna

Diocese: Diocese of Grand Rapids MI
Ordained: 1973
Status of Accusation: Accused

In December 2006, he was permanently expelled from all ministry positions due to allegations of child abuse dating back to the 1970s. Prior to these allegations, he had taken a sabbatical in 2002 and was placed on medical leave in 2003. The diocese found the accusations to be credible, and it was revealed that there were multiple transfers throughout his career. According to the bishop, there are “several” victims involved. Although prosecutors acknowledged evidence of abuse, the statute of limitations prevented any criminal prosecution. Furthermore, in March 2008, additional allegations of past abuse came to light.
