Fr. Patrick W. Egan

Diocese: Diocese of Lansing MI
Ordained: 1968
Status of Accusation: Accused

Fr. Patrick W. Egan came from the Diocese of Westminster in England, Egan spending numerous years in the Diocese of Lansing. However, Egan’s reputation has been marred by multiple accusations of sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and inappropriate sexual conduct. Shockingly, an allegation that was brought to the attention of the diocese in the early 1990s was left uninvestigated until it was reopened in 2003. The alleged victim of Egan’s misconduct was a young individual of 25 years old during the incidents. Consequently, Egan was prohibited from continuing his ministry in the Lansing diocese, and in March 2019, his ecclesiastical privileges were completely revoked following further allegations. Interestingly, investigators hired by the diocese in 2019 concluded that none of Egan’s accusers were minors at the time of the alleged abuse. However, in July 2003, a man reported to the Michigan State Police that Egan had repeatedly sexually assaulted him in 1987 when he was just 17 years old. Unfortunately, no charges could be filed due to the statute of limitations.
