Fr. Shamaun Beas

Diocese: Diocese of Grand Rapids MI
Ordained: 1994
Status of Accusation: Convicted

A priest hailing from Pakistan, who had been serving as an extern, found himself in a precarious situation when he was apprehended in May 2004 as a result of an internet sting operation. He was accused of soliciting sexual activities from an individual he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. Prior to this incident, he had already displayed questionable behavior, which prompted authorities to send him for therapy. In March 2006, he was handed a sentence ranging from 5 to 20 years. However, his troubles did not end there, as he was later convicted of abusing a young girl and received an additional one-year sentence. In July 2008, he decided to retract his guilty plea for further charges in a different county, where the girl’s sister also came forward with allegations of abuse. Consequently, he was sentenced to an additional 16-24 months in October 2008 for the abuse inflicted upon both sisters.
