Publicly identified as the accused in the Michigan Attorney General’s report released on October 22nd. In 1997, Bishop Garland was informed by a man that Sheedlo had made inappropriate sexual advances towards him during counseling sessions the previous year. This man had known Sheedlo since he was around 10 or 11 years old in 1979, and he detailed to Garland the manipulative behaviors exhibited by Sheedlo during their regular meetings over the course of several years. Sheedlo was subsequently sent for treatment. In 1998, he was accused of making sexual advances towards an 18-year-old seminarian in both 1974 and 1978. Bishop Garland instructed Sheedlo to take a one-year leave of absence. Finally, in 2009, Sheedlo was removed from public ministry. As of the October 22nd report, he remained on leave.
