In the latter part of 2021, Hegener’s name was discreetly appended to the roster of individuals within the Diocese of Gaylord who have been deemed to have credible accusations of engaging in child sexual abuse. It is worth mentioning that Hegener made his way back to his religious community in 1999, only to meet his demise in 2009.
