Reverend James Marron: Shedding Light on Seeking Legal Justice and Healing for Survivors
One case that brings to light the importance of addressing abuse within the clergy is that of Reverend James Marron, C.S.Sp., a member of the Holy Spirit Fathers. In this blog, we delve into the timeline of Reverend Marron’s assignments and the subsequent revelation of credible allegations of child sexual abuse. Our aim is to provide survivors with information, support, and guidance as they navigate their path toward justice.
Reverend James Marron, C.S.Sp., dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving various communities through his role as a clergy member. Ordained in 1927, Reverend Marron embarked on a four-year mission in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, starting in 1928. Upon returning to the United States, he continued to serve in different capacities, including a tenure as Chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Bay City, Michigan, from 1968 to 1970. He later worked briefly in Ferndale, Michigan, before moving to St. Joseph Parish in Bay City, where he served from 1980 to 1986.
Reverend Marron retired to Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, in 1986 and passed away on November 17, 1987. However, it was not until April 2019, after his death, that the Saginaw Diocese included him on a list of clergy members with credible allegations of child sexual abuse documented against them. This revelation shed light on the pain endured by victims and emphasized the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
