Fr. James A. Holtz

Diocese: Diocese of Gaylord MI
Ordained: 1974
Status of Accusation: Accused

Holtz tendered his resignation in August 2002 following an investigation by the diocese into allegations of sexual abuse involving a minor during the early 1980s, during a period when he was under the influence of alcohol. Prior to his resignation, Holtz had served as the adjutant judicial vicar on the Diocesan Tribunal. However, he was permanently removed from his position in 2002. In 2016, Bishop Raica was reportedly informed that Holtz was working as a sacristan and had been observed assisting an altar boy with his belt. Consequently, Holtz was included on the diocese’s list of individuals deemed to have credible accusations against them in 2018. The most recent update to the list in April 2021 indicates that Holtz has since been laicized.
