Seeking Justice and Healing: The Journey of Survivors in Father Timothy Crowley’s Case
In the pursuit of justice and healing, it is essential to shed light on cases that expose the dark realities of abuse within institutions of trust. This blog is dedicated to all survivors seeking legal justice, focusing on the distressing case involving Father Timothy Crowley. We aim to provide information, resources, and unwavering support to survivors who have faced similar ordeals.
Father Timothy Crowley, ordained as a priest at Holy Cross Parish in Lansing, MI, in 1976, began a distressing pattern of abuse. He was later transferred to different parishes, where he preyed on innocent lives. The harrowing story of a 10-year-old altar boy, who suffered abuse under Father Crowley’s guidance, unfolded at Saint Mary’s in Lansing in 1982. The abuse persisted during Father Crowley’s appointments at various churches, leaving a trail of suffering.
In 1993, the Diocese of Lansing reached a secret settlement agreement with the survivor’s family, compensating them $200,000. Unfortunately, the survivor was bound by a non-disclosure agreement, further silencing his voice. Father Crowley was removed from the Lansing ministry, but he resurfaced in Anchorage, Alaska, despite warnings about his disturbing history. It took years for justice to catch up, with Father Crowley being defrocked in 2002 and finally facing criminal charges in 2019.
