Fr. John Donald Slowey

On August 24, 2010, an attorney representing an individual made an announcement regarding the resolution of a legal claim against Slowey and the diocese. The settlement amount reached was $225K. The alleged abuse occurred during the plaintiff’s time at St. Vincent Home for Children in the mid-1950s when they were between the ages of 5 and 6. The diocese acknowledged that this was the only accusation against Slowey, although they were unable to verify the claims. Despite this, they chose to settle in order to cover the expenses related to healing. It is worth noting that Slowey’s name appeared on the diocese’s list of individuals credibly accused on September 27, 2019, which included multiple allegations. Slowey passed away on January 13, 1983.
