In February 2020, the diocese made public its reception of credible reports of sexual misconduct involving Fritz, spanning from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Subsequently, in 2016, Fritz faced charges of embezzlement from his parishes, which were ultimately dismissed. Following the embezzlement allegations, Fritz retired from his position in 2015.
