Fr. Timothy J. Murray
Diocese: Archdiocese of Detroit MI
Ordained: 1977
Status of Accusation: Convicted
In August 2004, this individual was placed on administrative leave without privileges after being accused of engaging in sexual misconduct with a young boy during the early years of their ministry. The Archdiocese promptly reported the abuse to the District Attorney’s office, although no legal action could be taken due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. As a result, they were permanently removed from public ministry according to the Archdiocese Status Report from October 2009. However, their troubles did not end there, as they were arrested in December 2012 on federal charges related to the downloading and viewing of child pornography. Following a confession, they pleaded guilty in July 2013 and were subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison on January 23, 2014. Shockingly, this individual’s name appeared on the archdiocese’s list of offenders on June 10, 2019.
