Fr. John Edward Martin
Diocese: Diocese of Lansing MI
Ordained: 1918
Status of Accusation: Accused
In the month of June in 2010, two individuals approached the diocese to report instances of abuse they experienced as minors at the hands of Martin. The diocese promptly took action by publishing notices in two church bulletins, which led to the emergence of four additional accusers. All of the alleged abuse incidents took place during the period of the 1950s to the early 1960s. Martin served as the pastor of St. Mary’s in Morrice and later at St. Isidore’s in Laingsburg from 1941 to 1966. Following the unfortunate event of the church burning down, he retired in 1966. Martin passed away in 1968. His name was included in the diocese’s list of clerics who have been credibly accused on September 27, 2019. Additionally, the Detroit archdiocese’s list, published on June 10, 2019, mentions that he had been removed from public ministry.
